FAQ

WHEN ARE SERVICES?
Sunday services are at 8:15 am and 10:45 am (in-person and online).
There is a staffed nursery available at each service for children up to age 3. Older children are invited to attend Children's Church (up to grade 5).
Between services, you have other options:
Adult Education classes (where students in high school are welcome!)
Fellowship time (and snacks) in the cafe.
Children and Youth Hangtime with John (our Director of Youth and Family Ministries) in the chapel.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
We want you to feel comfortable. We are thrilled that you're joining us and want you to be more focused on the service than what you're wearing. It's not uncommon to see people wearing khakis or jeans. Others prefer to still put on their "Sunday best," and that's fine too! We think you'll fit in no matter how you dress.

HOW DO I GET TO FIRST?
We are located at 3901 Bill Owens Parkway – at the corner of Bill Owens and Hawkins Parkways. Click for directions via Google Maps.

WHERE SHOULD I PARK?
Entering from Hawkins Parkway, you'll notice a portico with parking to the left, park anywhere there is a space.
Entering from Bill Owens Parkway, we recommend you following the parking lot around to the side of the church with the portico to find parking.
The doors under the portico lead you right to the narthex (church slang for foyer).

ARE MY CHILDREN WELCOME?
Of Course! We welcome your children to sit with you in church. We realize your child will be noisy, that's okay! The sounds of children is a joyful sound and will not bother us!

We do offer a staffed nursery at both services, for children from birth through 3 yrs. old. An usher will be happy to show you to the nursery. Additionally, we offer Children's Church, which is worship / learning / activity time for children from age 4 through 5th grade. If you desire, your child participate, after the opening hymn, the pastor will indicate it is time for the children to go to Children's Church. They will be escorted by their adult leaders and returned to you towards the end of the service.

AM I EXPECTED TO GIVE AN OFFERING?
Like many Christians, our members present offerings to God through their church.  Since offerings are gifts for the love of God, no one dictates what each person shall give. We pass an offering plate during the service so that our worship may include bringing gifts to our Lord.

IS FIRST WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?
Yes! Our building is 100% wheelchair accessible and our sanctuary is fully accommodating. If you need further assistance please let an usher know and they will happily strive to provide any accommodations you may need to ensure a meaningful worship experience.

I HAVE HEARING AND/OR VISUAL PROBLEMS. IS THERE ANY SPECIAL ASSISTANCE?
Yes! For those who are hearing impaired, we have special hearing devices that you can wear that will allow you to control the volume. If you think this would be beneficial to you, pick one up at the Sound Booth in the rear of the sanctuary.
For those who are visually impaired, we offer large print bulletins. (Request one from an usher as you enter. They have plenty.) We also have projection screens in the sanctuary, so you can follow the service on large screens if you want.

WHAT ARE YOUR SERVICES LIKE?
First Lutheran offers traditional services with a modern twist.

At times, we may include additional elements, but these are clearly identified in the bulletin.

At each service, we celebrate Holy Communion with an open communion table.

SHOULD I GO UP FOR COMMUNION?
Yes! All who believe that Christ is present in the bread and wine are welcome to receive communion. Grape juice is available for those desiring it, as well as gluten free hosts. If you would like to go up to receive a blessing during communion, simply cross your arms in front of your chest when the bread and wine are offered. For those not physically able to come forward, please alert an usher and the sacrament will be brought to you.
